Joel Embiid responds to explosive Sixers story

Joel Embiid

The Ringer ran an explosive story Tuesday evening in which the site outed Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo as having multiple burner accounts on Twitter to criticize players, front office personnel and the media.

The report goes on to note that Colangelo critiqued the likes of Joel Embiid and Markelle Fultz.

“Criticize NBA players, including Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel,” the report read. “Publicly debate the decisions of his own coaching staff, as well as critique former Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie and Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri.”

Well, it now looks like Joel Embiid has responded in the most Joel Embiid way possible.

When reached for a comment, Colangelo did admit to using at least one burner account.

“Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news,” the team said in a statement. “While I have never posted anything whatsoever on social media, I have used the @Phila1234567 Twitter account referenced in this story to monitor our industry and other current events.”

Colangelo would ultimately deny using other burner accounts mentioned in the story.

Embiid’s reaction is pretty much us all at this point. He’s the face of the Sixers’ franchise. And for a man tasked with running the ship to call his players out while pulling a Kevin Durant can’t sit well with the All-Star center.

Philadelphia is coming off a surprise trip to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It’s said to have interest in LeBron James once free agency starts. None of this paints the organization in the best of lights.

We promise to hear more about this story in the coming hours and days.
