New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom did his job in the first inning of Monday’s game. He got Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper to break his bat. Unfortunately for deGrom, it didn’t matter. Harper still hit the ball out.

These are just some of the reactions to the phenomenal swing by baseball’s home run leader.
Bryce Harper just got his bat sawed in half by that DeGrom fastball… and he hit it out to right center. Unbelievable.

Bryce Harper just broke his bat…and hit a ball 395 feet out to right-center. Wow.

I would pay my own money to get Bryce Harper on the Red Sox.

What Bryce Harper just did is some absurd, freak of nature type stuff. More proof why there’s just no reason to challenge him in this series with such a weak lineup around him. #Mets

With the possible exception of blowouts, we doubt that any Mets’ pitchers are going to be too eager to challenge Harper. He’s on another level right now and clearly, it’s getting noticed.
