If you’ve got a bat you’re a dangerous hitter. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas proved that old idiom true in an at-bat against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.
When Mikolas stepped into the box in the fifth inning with two outs and a man on, he had never even recorded a hit. That changed with one mighty impressive swing.

Mikolas wasn’t much of a hitter before this. Still, we can only guess that he had worked on his home run trot before. We’ve seen hitter with hundreds of home runs not have a trot anywhere near as impressive as that one.
This was the first home run hit by a pitcher in the 2018 season. Looking at that swing, it won’t be the last.
