Report: Rams pick up fifth-year options on Todd Gurley, Marcus Peters

The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly picking up the fifth-year options of running back Todd Gurley and cornerback Marcus Peters, recently acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

As Rapoport noted, this really is a no-brainer decision on both young players.

Gurley is one of the best running backs in the NFL. Last year, playing behind a revamped offensive line for rookie head coach Sean McVay, he totaled 2,093 yards and 19 touchdowns from scrimmage. He’s a do-it-all back who can produce on all three downs, which is a rarity these days.

The Rams will pay Gurley $9.63 million in 2019, if no long-term deal is worked out between the two sides before then.

Peters is one of the best cover cornerbacks in the game today. He’s a veritable ball hawk, having intercepted 19 passes in his first three years as a pro. If the Rams don’t work out a long-term deal with him before the 2019 season, then he’s in line to earn just over $9 million that year, which would be a steal.
