Report: Chargers have ‘legitimate significant interest’ in Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson

The Los Angeles Chargers have assembled a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but if Philip Rivers were to be injured the team has no real backup plan. This has been the case for years now, and perhaps the team’s brass has finally come to its senses about remedying this situation.

According to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, the Chargers have “legitimate significant interest” in Lamar Jackson.

Now, it should be noted that Los Angeles has already worked out Jackson recently, and that it is slotted in at No. 17 overall. Jackson could still be on the board then, and if he is then the Chargers shouldn’t hesitate to make a move to land him.

A Heisman winner in 2016 and third-place finisher in 2017, Jackson’s college career is legendary. He’s an athlete on par with Michael Vick and could be a much better overall passer than Vick ever was when it’s all said and done. He’s a perfect candidate to sit behind Rivers for a while to learn the nuances of the NFL game and polish up his mechanics.

There’s a lot of buzz that Jackson will be drafted in the first round. He’s a raw passer but has a set of tools that is rare. The Chargers would be set up for a long time if they do draft him to be the heir apparent to Rivers.
