In somewhat surprising news on Tuesday, the New England Patriots traded wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Los Angeles Rams. According to this report by NFL Network’s Steve Wyche, it would appear that the Rams plan to keep Cooks around long-term.
The team is looking to sign Cooks to an extension prior to the start of the 2018 season.
The Rams plan on signing recently acquired WR Brandin Cooks to an extension before the season, according to a team source. Cooks is scheduled to earn $8.5 on the final year of his deal in 2018. He's part of the long-term plan, which is why they traded a No. 1 for him.

The Rams were not joking around in this trade which consisted of the team giving up their 23rd overall pick as well as a sixth-round pick. In exchange, the Rams received a youthful 24-year-old top-tier wide receiver and a fourth-round pick.
Overall, the Rams have been quite aggressive this offseason making some bold moves and acquiring some elite talent. Cooks looks to replace wide receiver Sammy Watkins who the Rams decided to let walk in free agency.
Cooks is a former 20th overall pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2014, who was traded to the Patriots just one year ago.
