Bruce Arians: Cardinals set for big year if Sam Bradford is healthy

Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford on Monday Night Football

Bruce Arians decided to retire from the NFL after the 2017 season, but the former Arizona Cardinals coach believes the team is primed for a great year if Sam Bradford stays healthy.

Local reporter Mike Jurecki shared a video of Arians discussing the Cardinals’ outlook for 2018.

“I’ve always been a big Sam Bradford fan. And it’s just the same thing, you’ve just got to keep the knee healthy. And if they do, I think they’ll have a big-time year. I like the weapons they’ve added around him.”

However, beyond picking up Bradford, the Cardinals didn’t make splashy moves this offseason. They signed receivers Brice Butler and Cobi Hamilton, as well as offensive linemen Justin Pugh and Andre Smith.

The biggest improvement for Arizona will be David Johnson’s return from injury. The running back recently praised Bradford, but Johnson will be the biggest factor if his new quarterback performs well.

And that’s no guarantee anyway. In 2013 and 2014, Bradford played a combined seven games. After managing a 14-15 record as a starter over the next two seasons, he missed all but two contests during the 2017 campaign.

Arians is confident about his former team, but the NFL world won’t be so quick to trust a Cardinals depending on Bradford to avoid another injury.
