David Johnson hypes Sam Bradford

Sam Bradford

How good can the Arizona Cardinals offense be in 2018? Running back David Johnson believes that it can be very good. The catch is that new quarterback Sam Bradford must stay on the field.

“We’re going to be great if Sam Bradford is healthy,” Johnson said on Mad Dog Radio, H/T Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “For me watching him personally I’ve seen him do some great things. I think the biggest thing is just being healthy. Not just with the addition of him, but also the lineman we got, the receivers, and everyone else that we have added to the team on the offensive side, we definitely will be the top offense in the league this year.”

Of course, Bradford staying healthy has been much easier said than done through his career. The former No. 1 overall pick has played 16 games in a season only twice in his career, and never since 2012. He missed nearly all of 2017 with a knee injury, as well.

When he’s been on the field in recent years, Bradford has been an effective (though far from great) quarterback. Since 2015, he’s completed 68.6 percent of his passes for 7,984 yards with 42 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, and a 94.2 passer rating.

The bigger issue for Arizona will be how well Johnson comes back from his injury. He missed nearly all of the 2017 season and the offense was one of the worst in the league. That particularly showed in the running game, where the Cardinals ranked 30th in rushing yards. All signs point to Johnson being healthy, but nobody will know until we see him on the field.
