Richard Sherman to take physical with 49ers as potential signing looms

Richard Sherman

Former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman dined with San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanhan Friday night, mere hours after he was released. The five-time Pro Bowler is also meeting with San Francisco’s brass in Santa Clara on Saturday (more on that here).

With momentum picking up in regards to a potential marriage between the two, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is now reporting that Sherman will undergo a physical while he’s meeting with the 49ers on Saturday.

While it isn’t necessarily a precursor to an imminent signing, it does tell us that things are getting serious for the two sides.

Sherman, 29, suffered a ruptured Achilles last season and has since undergone another minor Achilles injury. Prior to being released by the Seahawks, head coach Pete Carroll indicated that Sherman would be ready for training camp. If 49ers doctors come to the same conclusion, a signing could happen here soon.

In reporting Sherman’s meeting with the 49ers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that he might not leave the team’s facility without a contract.

The results of Saturday’s physical could push this thing to the finish line.
