After a period of some uncertainty, the New Orleans Saints have reportedly locked up future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees for the foreseeable future. According to a report, the two sides are discussing a two-year deal that pays him $48 million.

This was always the most likely scenario, and these numbers line up with what’s been reported recently.
Additionally, Brees has made his intentions known that he wanted to remain in New Orleans for as long as the Saints would have him, and the Saints have maintained he would be back.
However, once the legal tampering period arrived and Brees remained unsigned, conventional wisdom had to be thrown out the window somewhat. Especially once it became known that Brees’ agent was fielding calls from other quarterback-needy teams.
Brees is already a first-ballot Hall of Famer. What he’s done since being traded from San Diego to New Orleans is nothing short of extraordinary. For his career, he’s completed an absurd 66.9 percent of his passes (No. 1 all time) for 70,445 yards (No. 3 all time) with 488 touchdowns (T-No. 3 all time) and just 228 interceptions.
Though Brees is 39 years old, he doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon and hopes to play into his mid-40s. Given everything he’s accomplished so far in his career, we’re not counting him out.
