Dolphins trade for 49ers center Daniel Kilgore after Mike Pouncey release request

Miami Dolphins 2016 Schedule

On Thursday, Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey asked to be released, a request the Dolphins are said to be granting. Not long after that, Miami pulled off a trade with the San Francisco 49ers to bring in starting center Daniel Kilgore, swapping seventh-round picks per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

Kilgore started 29 games the past two years for San Francisco and all 16 games last year at center for the 49ers. This move by San Francisco signals the 49ers will be utilizing recently signed interior lineman Weston Richburg at the center position in 2018, barring a move like signing Pouncey to the long-term deal he seeks in free agency. Even if Pouncey were signed, it’s likely Richburg will occupy the center position, however.

For Miami, this move is an easy fix to the situation the team found itself in when Pouncey requested his release. He’ll slide into the starting role immediately and give the Dolphins a solid anchor at center.
