Can Mitchell Trubisky now win Bears starting QB job? NFL preseason Week 1
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears hired Matt Nagy away from Andy Reid’s staff in Kansas City over two months ago, and now young quarterback Mitch Trubisky is chiming in about the hire.

Hint: He loves it.

Speaking on WSCR Tuesday evening, Trubisky revealed he and Nagy had previously connected before the 2017 NFL Draft and that he is absolutely thrilled to be playing for him now.

“I was really excited when I heard he got the job here,” Trubisky said, via the Chicago Tribune. “I know Chicago is going to have a warm welcome [for] him, and he’s going to bring amazing offensive ideas to the table. He’s just a great offensive mind, and he put a great offensive staff together for us. They’re going to be great teachers. I think [the Chiefs] utilized an athletic quarterback. A lot of things they do in their offense fit my strengths, and we also have a lot of pieces within our offense that will create explosive plays that the Kansas City offense ran. So it is a very exciting time.”

Trubisky should be excited. When the Nagy hire became official, we wrote about how perfect he is for Trubisky and the young Bears offense.

Tarik Cohen is very similar to Tyreek Hill. Jordan Howard is a tremendous young power back. Tight end Adam Sheehan could definitely develop into a Travis Kelce-type impact player in the middle of the field. And Nagy was a big part of getting all those Chiefs players involved during his stay in Kansas City. He’ll have a plan to optimize Chicago’s talent, to be sure.

Now all the Bears need to do is bring in some more protection up front and some receiving talent for Trubisky to make plays to downfield. It’s definitely a positive situation for a young quarterback who was handcuffed last year playing for the ultra conservative John Fox. Now, he’ll be tied to an offensive-minded coach in Nagy who’ll play to his strengths and let him fly.
