Odell Beckham Jr. has an uncertain future with the New York Giants, but general manager Dave Gettleman is at least trying to remain positive publicly.
While at the NFL’s annual meetings, ESPN’s Dan Graziano notes Gettleman thrice repeated the same phrase, “You don’t quit on talent.”
Regardless of whether Beckham remains a member of the Giants for the 2018 season, Gettleman has created a strange environment. He mentioned a GM has the responsibility to manage both internal and external distractions, yet he’s created one of each in this situation.
Reports continue emerging about New York’s purported valuation on Beckman as well as what the Los Angeles Rams, for example, are willing to offer. Gettleman won’t outright say Beckham will be back.
That’s not helping the locker room be assured its best player will return in 2018. And it’s certainly not quieting the external noise.
