Seahawks player admits this might be the end for the Legion of Boom

Seahawks expressed displeasure at the NFL's rule that bans players jumping over the line of scrimmage on field-goal attempts.

Coming off a disappointing 2017 season that saw the team miss out on the playoffs altogether, the Seattle Seahawks are likely going to see widespread changes this spring.

That could very well start in the secondary. Richard Sherman is expected to be placed on the trade block once again this offseason after finding himself bandied about on that market last March. Fellow Pro Bowler Kam Chancellor is recovering from a serious neck injury. There seems to be a split between what he thinks his future holds and the opinion of head coach Pete Carroll.

Meanwhile, the best safety in the game, Earl Thomas, made waves late last season in talking about wanting to play for his hometown Cowboys.

We have absolutely no idea how this entire situation will play out. But it seems young Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin is preparing for the original version of the Legion of Boom to come to a conclusion this offseason.

“Right now (the Legion of Boom’s future) is kind of in the air, but trust me, the Legion of Boom will never go away,” Griffin said, via Pro Football Talk. “The thing is these are the guys who created the Legion of Boom. We all know that. But just because they might not be here or they’re not coming back, the Legion of Boom is not over.”

We hate to break it to you, Mr. Griffin. There will never be another Legion of Boom. Not on the Seahawks. Not any other team. What this unit has done in Seattle over the past several years, leading the team to two conference titles and a Super Bowl championship, is nothing short of amazing.

But like all good things, it must come to an end at some point. That point appears to be now. With the Seahawks unquestionably Russell Wilson’s team, GM John Schneider and Co. are likely looking to use their financial resources on the offensive side of the ball.

As Griffin admits, that could potentially be the end of the Legion of Boom as we know it. If so, the entire dynamic of the NFL offseason will change on a dime. Assuming they are all healthy, Sherman, Thomas and Chancellor are still among the best players at their respective positions in the NFL.
