The tremendous 18-year career of Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski might be at an end after the team reportedly told him he won’t be brought back in 2018.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this news on Wednesday.
Raiders informed kicker Sebastian Janikowski today that they do not plan to bring him back for the 2018 season, per source. An 18-year run with Raiders comes to an end.

With the Raiders set to cut Sebastian Janikowski, Tom Brady is the only player from the 2000 NFL draft still with the team that drafted him.

This news shouldn’t come as a shock. In fact, last year it was rumored that Janikowski, who didn’t kick at all for Oakland in 2017, was on the chopping block midway through the season. He ended up being placed on injured reserve with a back injury.
And despite his long run, the simple fact of the matter is that he isn’t a very accurate kicker, especially in today’s NFL.
Over the course of his career, Janikowski hit on 80.4 percent of his attempts and had a career long of 63 yards. His 414 made field goals ranks No. 10 on the all-time list, and he ranks 44th all time on the career field-goal percentage list.
