Lindsey Vonn wasn’t able to hold onto her speed all the way through her Olympic downhill final on Tuesday. In the end, she landed a bronze medal, which was certainly a disappointment.
On Wednesday, Vonn shared a picture of her skis from that race, noting her technician thinks the skis were burned out by the second gate, which obviously is right at the start of the race.
Turns out my skis got burnt out in the race yesterday. My technician thinks it happened on the 2nd gate 😔 Have to race on another pair today. Hopefully they’ll survive and stay fast the whole way down. 🙏🏻 #thatisskiracing pic.twitter.com/r8hKINANHN

This would explain why Vonn was unable to keep up her fast pace all the way to the bottom of the run. For her sake, hopefully her next pair will hold up when she and Mikaela Shiffrin go head-to-head in the Alpine combined on Friday.
