Colts create scholarship in honor of Edwin Jackson

Edwin Jackson

The Indianapolis Colts are grieving the loss of linebacker Edwin Jackson, but the team is continuing his memory with a scholarship.

A team release stated owner Jim Irsay has announced a $25,000 gift to establish the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship.

While the specifics of the scholarship are not decided, that will be a joint decision between the Colts and the Jackson family. It will be an annual award for a “qualified student applicant.”

The statement included thoughts from Irsay:

“This scholarship will honor Edwin’s memory and his determination, work ethic and character. My family and the entire Colts organization are proud to have been associated with Edwin, and we are honored to help continue his legacy in the future.”

The 26-year-old died early in February after being hit by a drunk driver. Jeffrey Monroe, the Uber driver for Jackson at the time, also died in the accident.

Jackson collected 66 tackles in 16 career appearances for the Colts.
