Colts’ Edwin Jackson killed by suspected drunken driver

NFL free agent predictions

At the age of 26, Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson has passed away after being struck by a suspected drunken driver early Sunday morning. According to the Indiana State Police, via Justin L. Mack and Emma Kate Fittes of the Indy Star, Jackson was one of two people struck and killed.

Jackson and 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe were both outside a vehicle when they were struck by a black Ford F-150 pickup truck, which drove onto the emergency shoulder before hitting them.

The driver of the pickup has been identified as 37-year-old Alex Cabrera Gonsales, who attempted to flee the scene on foot afterward.

“It is believed Gonsales was intoxicated and was driving without a license,” Perrine said in a statement. “He was transported to the Marion County Jail, the result of the test for intoxication is pending.”

Jackson spent the 2017 season on injured reserve. He was originally an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern and had a productive 2016 campaign during which he appeared in all 16 games, started eight while tallying 66 tackles and two sacks.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jackson’s family and friends, along with the Colts community as a whole. May he rest in peace.
