Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said on Wednesday that Tyrod Taylor’s position on Buffalo’s roster is safe for now, as there is no plan to release the quarterback.
As noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McDermott said, “Tyrod is a good player. It’s way too early to take anything off the table, other than cutting him at this point, which is not in our plans.”
This statement can only truly be considered tepid support, however. It’s been reported recently that Buffalo would much rather trade Taylor for some assets than cut him outright, so this falls right in line with that thinking.
In three seasons as the starting quarterback in Buffalo, Taylor went 22-20, passing for 8,857 yards with 51 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He also completed 62.6 percent of his passes, had a very respectable passer rating of 92.5 and ran in 14 touchdowns.
It’s going to be interesting to see how things progress going forward. There are going to be teams in need of a bridge passer, and there’s a chance Taylor could fetch a nice value in trade. Likely, if that’s the course of action that is taken, things will heat up closer to the draft at the end of April.
