Doug Pederson not happy about Alex Smith joining NFC East

Tuesday’s stunning trade that sent Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins caught plenty of attention in the football world. That includes a man preparing for the Super Bowl, Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson.

Pederson, Smith’s former offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs, was not thrilled about having Smith in the NFC East.

“Yeah, I just hate that we have to play him twice a year,” Pederson said, per Marc Sessler, NFL.com. “Well, I’m happy for Alex. I’ve had a chance to work with him for three years obviously and I’m excited and happy for him. I think it’s a great honor for him and the Redskins.”

Along with Andy Reid, Smith and Pederson started with the Chiefs in 2013. Pederson remained in Kansas City as the offensive coordinator through the 2015 season. After 2015, he joined the Eagles as the head coach.

Pederson may not love the idea of facing Smith twice a year. But things could be much worse for a coach than having a common opponent that he knows so well.
