The NFL head coaching situation is coming close to being settled with multiple teams honing in on potential new hires.
New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is expected to become the new Detroit Lions head coach. Meanwhile, it appears that the New York Giants will soon hire Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur to be their newest head coach.
Now comes this report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport noting that the Indianapolis Colts are expected to be Josh McDaniels’ choice when he’s officially offered the team’s head coaching job.
The #Colts have held strong with their pursuit of #Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and that is expected to be his choice when an offer comes, sources tell me and @TomPelissero.

As with Patricia, the official offer won’t come until either New England is eliminated from the playoffs in next Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against Jacksonville or plays in the Super Bowl next month.
McDaniels has long been linked to the Colts’ opening, especially after Baylor head coach Matt Rhule ruled himself out as a candidate.
Given McDaniel’s success in New England, this makes a ton of sense for a Colts squad that’s hopefully set to return a healthy Andrew Luck under center next season.
