Tom Savage shows support for Bill O’Brien following concussion drama

Texans quarterback Tom Savage

The NFLPA has promised to look into the Houston Texans’ concussion protocol after quarterback Tom Savage returned to the game Sunday against San Francisco.

The situation itself was about as bad as it gets. As you can see here, Savage was seen twitching after being plowed to the turf by 49ers pass rusher Elvis Dumervil.

Despite this, Savage returned minutes later and actually played another possession before leaving with a concussion.

Now, in talking about the situation publicly for the first time, Savage is apparently throwing his full support behind Texans head coach Bill O’Brien.

That’s all fine and dandy. And Savage isn’t the only player to show support for O’Brien after Sunday’s loss.

Even then, this isn’t the first time the Texans have been embroiled in a concussion controversy. As we noted in the link above, Savage himself opened up about the team’s concussion protocol during its Week 13 outing against Tennessee.

There was also an issue with the Texans keeping Savage in a game back in Week 17 of last season after he suffered a concussion.

This is more of a trend than anything else. And as the head coach, O’Brien deserves most of the blame. Despite Savage’s support, the situation at hand will not be resolved any time soon. And it likely won’t end well for O’Brien.
