Tee Martin focused on USC but would reconsider if Tennessee was interested

There have been some rumors recently that Tennessee is interested in hiring USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin to be its next head coach.

On Friday night following USC’s victory over Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship Game, Martin was asked about those rumors. Martin said he has not been contacted by Tennessee at this time and that his focus is on USC. However, he also noted he’d reconsider if the Volunteers were interested in his services, per Adam Maya of Rivals.com.

Tennessee and Martin seems to be a natural fit. He was the starting quarterback for the Vols during their 1998 championship season and has proven himself to be a terrific offensive-minded coach.

At this time, however, it’s unknown what Tennessee has in mind going forward. Former head coach Phil Fulmer was brought in to be the athletic director after John Currie was suspended from the position for what appears to be insubordination as he attempted to land Washington State’s Mike Leach.

The program is in upheaval, to be sure. Fans have taken to extreme measures to express their dismay at what’s transpired, and the Vols desperately need something positive to happen to cleanse the air. Perhaps landing Martin is the move that could do that, though at this point we’re not counting on Tennessee to do anything that remotely makes sense.
