Seahawks players avoid suspensions for late-game mayhem in Jacksonville

Seattle Seahawks 2016 Schedule

Sheldon Richardson and Quinton Jefferson were both ejected for their actions at the end of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. A couple of fights broke out after Michael Bennett dove at the knees of Jaguars center Brandon Linder. It was a bunch of sour grapes after the Seahawks had been getting bullied by the Jaguars most of the game.

Then afterward, Jefferson nearly jumped up into the stands after being pelted with some objects while walking into the locker room following his ejection (watch here).

It was a very ugly scene overall, and many believed the Seahawks players involved would be facing suspensions. Not so, says the NFL, though other disciplinary actions could be taken (aka fines).

Really, this is quite strange given the suspensions handed out in recent weeks. It’s really hard to understand what the NFL is doing, because there doesn’t seem to be a standard. Rather, it’s all very arbitrary, and it lends credence to the idea the league does what it does based on perceived optics, rather than concrete rules.
