WATCH: Ugly scene in Jacksonville at the end of the Seahawks/Jaguars game

Seahawks defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson

The end of the Seattle Seahawks’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars marred what was really a good game between two playoff contenders.

The Seahawks got a little overzealous and started fighting with the Jaguars, who were in victory formation.

As a result, Seattle’s Sheldon Richardson and Quinton Jefferson were ejected.

Things got ugly afterward. The only saving grace is that they could have been worse. As Jefferson was heading into the locker room, he spotted something being thrown at him from the Jacksonville crowd. Rather than continue to go towards the locker room, Jefferson headed towards the crowd to confront the crowd. That only drew more talk from the fans and unfortunately, more things thrown his way.

That’s when things got even worse.

Frankly, nobody is in the right here.

It’s an unspoken rule to not rush the line during victory formation. Certainly, it’s a little harder to honor that in a one-possession game. But Richardson and the Seahawks should know better. They’ve won enough games and certainly wouldn’t appreciate someone rushing Russell Wilson if the roles were reversed. They should grant the same respect to their opponents. Additionally, this isn’t the first time we’ve been down this road with Seattle.

As for the fans who threw things at Jefferson, there’s no excuse.

You spend a lot of money on your tickets, but that does not entitle you to throw things on the field. That’s dangerous to not only the on field personnel, but the fans around you.

Of course, Jefferson wasn’t well advised to go into the crowd. Certainly, it’s natural to be mad in that spot. But had he gotten into the crowd, the fans that threw things at him would not have been the only ones in danger. That kind of behavior can only get yourself and other fans hurt.

The game itself was a great coming out party for the Jaguars and really showed the fighting spirit of the Seahawks, who turned a lopsided loss into a close one. But the actions of the Jacksonville fans and the Seattle players marred it. Expect a lot of discipline to come from this one.
