Report: Cardinals favored to land Marlins All-Star Marcell Ozuna

After moving both Dee Gordon and Giancarlo Stanton over the past week, the Miami Marlins are still looking to clear payroll.

Among those likely to be dealt here soon, All-Star outfielder Marcell Ozuna is apparently drawing the most interest (more on that here).

It now looks like the St. Louis Cardinals, who missed out on the Stanton sweepstakes, are favored to land Ozuna.

This wouldn’t necessarily be a bad consolation prize for St. Louis. Ozuna, 27, hit .312 with 37 homers and 124 RBI en route to earning a second consecutive All-Star appearance for the Marlins last season.

He’s also under team control the next two seasons, with a likely huge arbitration raise coming this winter.

St. Louis and Miami had already agreed to the parameters of a deal for Stanton before he vetoed a move to the Cardinals. It’s in this that St. Louis might have the upper-hand in trade talks with Miami.
