NFL upholds one-game suspension for Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski had his appeal heard Tuesday for the one-game suspension the NFL handed down for his dirty hit on Tre’Davious White. His appeal was denied, and he will sit out the New England Patriots’ Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins.

In the letter sent to Gronkowski by NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan, it was clearly stated that, “Your actions were not incidental, could have been avoided and placed the opposing player at risk of serious injury. The Competition Committee has clearly expressed its goal of ‘eliminating flagrant hits that have no place in our game.’ Those hits include the play you were involved in yesterday.”

In light of the fact that both JuJu Smith-Schuster and George Iloka were both handed one-game suspensions for actions Monday night that many thought were far less worthy, many have said Gronkowski is getting off light with just one game. Clearly, he went after a player who was down, after a play, with the intent to injure (watch here).

In fact, White suffered a concussion in the incident and might also miss a game due to that injury. Needless to say, you won’t find many people who are too upset Gronkowski will miss a game because of his actions.
