In his first two starts with the San Francisco 49ers, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has passed for 627 yards. That’s something that none of the legendary quarterbacks in franchise history had done.
The team previously announced Jimmy Garoppolo’s 627 yards passing is the most for any #49ers player in his first two starts with the club since the NFL merger. I just looked it up. It’s the most for a QB in his first two starts in franchise history, beginning in 1946.

Garoppolo not only has the record. But when it comes to some of the more notable quarterbacks in franchise history, he has them handily defeated.
Hall of fame quarterbacks Y.A. Tittle, Joe Montana, and Steve Young checked in at 227, 288, and 296, respectively. Former league MVP John Brodie tossed for 319 yards in his first two starts with the team. More recent quarterbacks Jeff Garcia, Colin Kaepernick, and Alex Smith tossed for 476, 474, and 166 yards.
In addition to his high yardage total, Garoppolo has also led the 49ers, who had one win before he got the job, to a 2-0 record. No wonder the team is reportedly hoping to ink him to a long-term deal soon.
