Giants fire general manager Jerry Reese

The housecleaning in New Jersey escalated Monday morning in the matter of minutes.

It was initially reported that head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese were called to the team’s facility following Sunday’s loss to the Oakland Raiders. The indication there was that multiple firings were imminent.

Fresh off news that McAdoo has indeed been fired, it now looks like Reese will join him on the unemployment line.

Reese was able to avoid a housecleaning following the 2015 season when New York parted ways with Tom Coughlin. But that’s not going to be the case here.

Reese has served as the Giants’ general manager since 2007, overseeing a Super Bowl title in his first season in that role. While the team did win another title in 2011, it has made the playoffs just once since then.

At 2-10 on the season, the Giants are in the midst of one of the worst seasons in franchise history. Add the entire Eli Manning drama into the equation, and it’s not a surprise that Reese and McAdoo were shown the door.
