Baker Mayfield misses Sooners’ Disneyland trip due to illness

Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield

As one of the perks to being invited to the Rose Bowl, the Oklahoma Sooners are visiting Disneyland Friday, but Baker Mayfield wasn’t with the team.

Per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN, Mayfield stayed behind while dealing with an illness ahead of the big College Football Playoff tilt against Georgia. Thankfully Mayfield is expected to be ready for the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

“He’ll be ready to play,” head coach Lincoln Riley said.

Mayfield was healthy enough to practice on Wednesday, and the program tweeted out a picture slideshow of the quarterback preparing with his teammates.

Mayfield won the 2017 Heisman Trophy, finishing the season with 4,340 yards, 41 passing touchdown and just five interceptions. The Sooners will go as far as his talented arm takes them this postseason, so hopefully he’s well past any ill effects of the sickness that’s plaguing him currently.

After the playoff, Mayfield will be competing in the Senior Bowl as he prepares to take his game to the next level.
