Just when we thought the entire Andrew Luck drama would die down in Indianapolis, former Colts head coach Tony Dungy is out here to throw gasoline into the flames.
In an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show Monday, Dungy claimed Colts owner Jim Irsay told him that Luck’s shoulder injury is “in his head.”
“I don’t know what’s going on there. Jim Irsay made a comment to me about six weeks ago, ‘It’s inside his head now,'” Dungy continued.
Remember, Irsay noted on Twitter back in January after Luck’s surgery that his quarterback would be back by Week 1. Last week, Indianapolis placed Luck on injured reserve after his throwing shoulder didn’t respond properly to rehab.
We really have to wonder what is going on here and what this might mean for Luck’s future in Indianapolis. Irsay might have told this to his former head coach in confidence, but it’s out there now. That’s not going to create a better relationship between the quarterback and his organization.
Indianapolis has pretty much failed Luck at every turn. Whether it was failing to build a decent team around him or the organization’s handling of the injury, this isn’t necessarily the best of times for Irsay and Co.
Now, with some worried about Luck actually returning to be the same player he was pre-injury, this new wrinkle has been added to the equation.
It’s certainly something to pay close attention to in the coming months.
