Jameis Winston could begin throwing Wednesday

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jameis Winston NFL quarterbacks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been out ever since midway through the team’s game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 9.

He’s been dealing with a shoulder injury but got a clean report on his latest MRI Monday and did some exercises. Provided Winston experiences no soreness, he’ll be able to resume throwing on Wednesday heading into the team’s game in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers, per Jenna Laine of ESPN.

In six full games and two partial games, Winston has struggled to live up to expectations that he’d be taking “that next step” as we so often say about young quarterbacks. He’s completed 61.4 percent of his passes this year for 1,920 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. Though, that interception total could be much higher if defenders hadn’t dropped some gifts.

The Bucs are pretty much toast this year, heading into Sunday’s game with a record of 4-7, well outside both the wild card race and the NFC South, which is led by the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints (8-3).

With that in mind, we won’t be surprised if Ryan Fitzpatrick is under center in Week 13, even if Winston doesn’t have any setbacks this week.
