Dak Prescott: ‘It’s shocking’ how bad Cowboys offense is playing

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in NFL Week 2

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is suffering through the worst three-game stretch of his NFL career as his team hits the skids heading into December.

Heading into Week 10, which was the first game the team played without Ezekiel Elliott (six-game suspension), Prescott had thrown 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions. The Cowboys were 5-3 at the time. Since then, he’s thrown no touchdowns and five interceptions while losing three straight games.

Not mincing words, the second-year quarterback is in shock about how bad things are.

“It’s frustrating, it’s shocking,” Prescott said, per Kate Hairopoulos of SportsDay. “You look around and you see the Pro Bowlers and the talent that you have, it’s almost lost at words for why it’s happening. But it just shows you this game’s tough.”

Prescott, discussing the interceptions, admitted he’s pressing a bit. He also said he is not interested in blaming anyone and was critical of people who blame the coaching staff.

“Look into it deeper,” Prescott said. “You must not know much if you just point fingers at the coaching staff or point fingers at anybody, really. Then you don’t know enough. Just look into it more.”

Losing Elliott has certainly been hard on Prescott. He and his running back entered the league together, so there’s certainly the issue of comfort (or lack thereof) at play. Left tackle Tyron Smith not being in the lineup has also contributed to Prescott’s lack of comfort, and to his overall ability to perform, as his pocket has been breaking down consistently the past few weeks.

If Dallas has any hope of making it to the playoffs this year, then the issues that have plagued the offense in recent weeks need to disappear. The NFC is deep, and the ‘Boys likely can’t afford to lose more than one more game without seeing their chance go down the drain.
