Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers underwent surgery to repair a broken collarbone he suffered in Week 6. Speaking up for the first time since the injury occurred, Rodgers shared this update on a potential return to the field.
“It’s going to come down to the bone healing. That’s the most important thing,” Rodgers said, per Mike Spofford of the team’s official website. “There won’t be a decision made until that bone is healed, so it’s not even a conversation if it’s not where it needs to be.”
Rodgers sustained a broken collarbone on his throwing arm after taking a tackle from Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr. The hit took place early in that game on October 15.
Rodgers has since been placed on IR, and the earliest he would be eligible to play would be in Week 15. But, dates and timelines do not prevail over the fact that Rodgers collarbone must heal.
Rodgers reiterated with this.
“It comes down to how fast the bone heals. If it heals and we’re in the right position, then there’s a conversation. If the bone isn’t healed, there’s absolutely no conversation to be had.”
For the foreseeable future, quarterback Brett Hundley will continue to fill in for Rodgers. Under Hundley’s watch, the Packers have unfortunately lost their last two games in a row.
Rodgers said that he has talked with Hundley as far as being available to lend advice.
“I’m around and I’m here to listen and to bounce things off of, but he’s got a great quarterback coach and offensive coordinator and head coach who have been helping him out. My role is just to help him as much as I can and continue to give him the things he needs, as much or as little as that is.”
The Packers return from their bye to travel to face the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 9.
