Former NFL MVP Cam Newton just isn’t right. There’s concern within Carolina’s brass that he’s on the verge of breaking down physically.
And on the field, Newton is performing more like a backup caliber quarterback than a former MVP. This pass in the first half against the New England Patriots on Sunday is a prime example of that.

NFL quarterbacks can’t throw into double coverage and expect tremendous results. When going up against the defending champions, that’s magnified even further.
As you can see, Damiere Byrd had two defensive backs on him with former Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Butler acting the part of the intended receiver en route to picking off the pass.
It’s just not a good look from a quarterback in Newton who has now thrown two touchdowns compared to five interceptions on the season. Ouch.
