Jarvis Landry blasts Dolphins fans over criticism of Jay Cutler

Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler speaks to reporters ahead of NFL preseason Week 2

Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler has been subjected to criticism at pretty much every turn during his team’s first four games of the season.

After unretiring following the injury to Ryan Tannehill, Cutler has thrown three touchdowns compared to three interceptions in four games. He’s also averaging less than 180 passing yards per outing.

In attempting to defend his quarterback, star receiver Jarvis Landry directed some harsh words at Dolphins fans who continue to criticize Cutler.

“Jay is our quarterback, and we stand by him,” Landry said, via the Associated Press (h/t The Washington Post). “We don’t buy into the fans — ‘Who do you want to play quarterback?’ I believe it’s disrespectful.”

As much as Landry wants to defend his quarterback, it’s Cutler’s job to perform at a higher clip. Over the course of the past two games, the much-maligned veteran has put up just 256 passing yards with one touchdown. He’s also led the Dolphins to a total of 22 points in the past three games.

Despite this, Landry wants Cutler to know he has the signal caller’s back.

“A man who comes out here and works his butt off, for people to not understand what’s going on, or not to have even touched the field before … They don’t understand the situation,” Landry continued. “They just want to be on Twitter or start a damned chant.”

That’s about as direct as it gets.

Some Dolphins fans are calling for the team to replace Cutler under center with veteran backup Matt Moore. And at 2-2 on the season, Miami is in no way out of the AFC East race. If Cutler can’t provide that jolt at quarterback, the team might have to look in another direction.

Just don’t expect Landry to be happy with any potential quarterback change.
