The Houston Texans have spent Thursday doling out some big bucks to their core players on contract extensions. That came to a culmination Thursday evening with reports that the Texans will sign wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a massive extension that will include the largest guaranteed money for a receiver in NFL history.

Hopkins, 25, is among the best young receivers in the game. It was two seasons ago, with solid quarterback play, that Hopkins put up 111 receptions for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns. While he did see a downtick in production last season, that primarily had to do with Brock Osweiler’s struggles under center.
We have seen the likes of Matthew Stafford and Devonta Freeman set a new market at their respective positions this summer. Hopkins will likely join that group.
The deal calls for $49 million guaranteed, $2 million more than Julio Jones received when he signed his extension with the Atlanta Falcons back in 2015.
