The Baltimore Ravens were crushed by the injury bug last year, and that bug is still attacking in full force ahead of the 2017 campaign. Already down in a big way with multiple season-ending injuries to key starters, Baltimore will now be without offensive tackle Alex Lewis for the rest of the season.
An eight-game starter last season as a fourth-round rookie out of Nebraska, Lewis needs surgery on his shoulder and has been ruled out of the 2017 campaign, per the Ravens.
This is a particularly crushing blow, because the Ravens had already sent rookie offensive lineman Nico Siragusa to injured reserve after he blew out his knee. Lewis was penciled in as the starting left guard before his injury occurred.
A team that watched one of its best offensive linemen in Rick Wagner leave in free agency, Baltimore is suddenly looking for some serious help on its offensive line.
That’s a very frustrating issue to have to overcome this early. Making things all the more difficult, starting running back Kenneth Dixon is out for the year and Joe Flacco is dealing with a disc injury in his back.
