Report: Patriots sign Julian Edelman to an extension

It was just earlier on Thursday that reports surfaced the New England Patriots and wide receiver Julian Edelman were closing on on a contract extension.

With Edelman entering the final year of his contract, that made a whole bunch of sense.

Though, it now looks like the two sides didn’t waste any time. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots and their top receiver have in fact agreed to terms on a new deal that will keep him with the defending champs beyond the 2017 season.

Edelman, 31, is coming off a career-best season that saw him put up 98 receptions for 1,106 yards. He’s going to be a dynamic receiving threat for New England moving forward, especially considering the team added Brandin Cooks to the mix and appears ready to get a fully healthy Rob Gronkowski back on the field in 2017.
