Report: Julian Edelman to sign contract extension soon

Julian Edelman

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman’s four-year, $17 million deal expires at the end of 2017 — hardly indicative of his worth. It would appear that the Patriots want to keep Edelman around past the 2017 season and are working towards an extension to make it happen.

Edelman currently earns what some might consider a poor man’s wide receiver salary. This is taking into account some of the lucrative deals that the league’s top wide receivers have been inking over the past couple of seasons.

Edelman has been with the Patriots since 2009 after he was drafted in the seventh round. He is 31 years old and just tallied a career-high 1,106 yards in 2016. Over the course of his eight years with the Patriots, he has scored 24 touchdowns.

If the two parties come to a reasonable agreement, Edelman will likely finish out his career as a Patriot and will be at least a two-time Super Bowl champion.
