If you had money on Miami Marlins veteran Edinson Volquez tossing the first no-hitter of the 2017 MLB season, you might want to head to the local casino.
Heading into Saturday’s action against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Volquez led the Majors with seven losses. He was also pitching to a 4.44 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 10 starts. Heck, opposing hitters had posted a .319 BABip against the 33-year-old starter thus far this season.
None of that mattered Saturday at home against the Diamondbacks.
Volquez tossed nine no-hit frames, striking out 10 while walking two in a 3-0 Marlins victory over Arizona. It’s the first no-hitter of the Major League Baseball season and was capped off when Volquez got Chris Owings striking out swinging.
HE DID IT! 🙌

It’s the first no-no for the Marlins since former starter Henderson Álvarez accomplished the feat against the Detroit Tigers back in September of 2013. It’s also just the sixth no-hitter in franchise history.
