Report: 49ers receiving interest from six teams about No. 2 pick

49ers

We now know the Cleveland Browns are taking Myles Garrett No. 1 overall. Suddenly the No. 2 spot, owned by the San Francisco 49ers, has taken on even more of an important role in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

On that note, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area the 49ers have been in discussions with six (SIX!) teams about trading that pick away.

“The 49ers have held discussions with three teams inside the top 10 and three teams outside the top 10 about a possible trade for the No. 2 overall pick, a league source told NBC Sports Bay Area on Thursday.”

This must just be like Christmas morning for rookie general manager John Lynch and the 49ers — a team that is reportedly “desperate” to move down in the first round to begin with.

Obviously the big trade bait is that, with Cleveland taking a non-quarterback at the top, teams needing a quarterback want to take a stab at landing “their guy.” And we know from history that teams focused on this goal are usually willing to give up gargantuan amounts of draft capital in return for these top spots.

The 49ers have the NFL world at their fingertips. Now it’s going to be fascinating to see what comes of this development.
