Report: Browns will take Myles Garrett No. 1 overall

Myles Garrett of Texas A&M at the 2017 NFL Draft

After all the speculation that the Cleveland Browns would pass up on consensus No. 1 prospect Myles Garrett, it now looks like the team will ultimately take the former Texas A&M defensive end No. 1 overall Thursday night.

Garrett has long been considered the top player in the draft. But reports suggested over the past couple weeks that the Browns were torn between him and North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

That no longer appears to be the case.

In reality, this is an obvious decision for Cleveland. Garrett is considered a generational talent, someone that can change the fortune of a defense by his mere presence on the field. Meanwhile, the quarterback class is said to be relatively weak by recent standards.

In no way does this mean that Trubisky is not an option for the Browns. It’s been bandied about that they may look to trade back up from the 12th pick to acquire his services. That’s surely something to keep an eye on as the draft starts Thursday evening. But for now, it looks like Garrett will be a member of the Browns in 2017.
