Mavericks to honor Tony Romo during home finale Tuesday

Tony Romo

The city of Dallas has honored him. The Dallas Cowboys have paid their respects. It’s now time for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks to do the same.

The team announced on Saturday that it will make Romo a “Maverick for a day” during its home finale against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.

Romo will reportedly sign a one-day deal with the Mavericks and be in uniform on the team’s bench for the game.

Romo announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this week, ending speculation that he might conclude his career with another team outside of Dallas.

Joining the likes of Don Meredith, Roger Staubach, Danny White and Troy Aikman as quarterbacks who played their whole careers with the Cowboys, Romo also concluded his career as the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

While the now CBS broadcaster failed to lead his Cowboys to the Super Bowl, it’s readily apparent that Romo was widely respected within the organization and the city of Dallas.

The Mavericks honoring him on Tuesday night is the latest example of this.
