Report: Robert Griffin III interested in signing with the Jets

Robert Griffin III

The New York Jets need a quarterback. Robert Griffin III is looking for a new job with reports surfacing that the Cleveland Browns will release the former Pro Bowl signal caller.

So, it stands to reason that the two might be linked.

Even before he’s officially hit the free agent market, RGIII is reportedly already showing interest in signing with the aforementioned Jets.

“It’s unclear if the Jets have any interest in signing recently released quarterback Robert Griffin III,” Connor Hughes of NJ.com reported on Friday. “But the former Rookie of the Year is intrigued by the possibility of playing for the quarterback-needy Jets, according to a person familiar with Griffin’s thinking.”

It’s important to note that the Jets might not be interested in bringing in a Browns retread. It’s also important to note that at this point in his career, RGIII would likely be interested in signing with any NFL team.

The injury-plagued former No. 2 overall pick started just five games for Cleveland this past season, tossing two touchdowns compared to three interceptions in the process. He was sidelined for nearly three months with an injured shoulder.

This came on the heels of the former Baylor standout playing in a combined nine games (seven starts) for the Washington Redskins in his final two seasons with the team.

As of right now, the Jets only have Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg under center at quarterback. Needless to say, the team is going to be in the market for a veteran. Though, most reports have linked them to recently released former Chicago Bears signal caller Jay Cutler.
