After missing out on top free-agent target Stephon Gilmore, the Chicago Bears have reportedly hit the secondary cornerback market.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Bears have signed former New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars corner Prince Amukamara.

Amukamara, 27, was a first-round pick of the Giants back in 2011. After struggling through five injury-plagued and inconsistent seasons with the team, the Nebraska product signed a one-year, prove-it deal with Jacksonville last season. He responded by putting up the best performance of his career, tallying 49 tackles and six passes defended in 14 games (12 starts).

Even then, the former top pick didn’t necessarily impress from an advanced statistical standpoint.

This is nothing more than Amukamara attempting to prove himself once more as he looks to hit free agency again in 2018, as the deal is said to be for just one year.
