There’s been some question as to who might be the first quarterback off the board during next month’s 2017 NFL Draft. The list of potential options include Deshaun Watson, DeShone Kizer, Mitch Trubisky and Pat Mahomes.
Though, there’s another quarterback among the second tier that’s drawing a ton of buzz leading up to the annual event in Philadelphia.
Taking part in CAL’s pro day on Friday, quarterback Davis Webb indicated that “double-digit” teams have told him he’s a first-round prospect.
“I’ve talked to a lot of NFL people,” Webb on Friday, via ESPN.com. “And double-digit teams have told me I’m a first-round guy.”
This would certainly qualify as an upset. However, it does not necessarily mean that Webb will be the first quarterback off the board. Heck, there’s a good chance he won’t even be a Day 1 prospect.
Webb started for one season at Berkeley, putting up 4,295 yards with 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also completed nearly 62 percent of his passes in what was deemed as an Air Raid offense under then head coach Sonny Dykes.
There’s surely some concern about his ability to start immediately. It was somewhat the same issue that former Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff had during the pre-draft process last year prior to being selected No. 1 overall by the Los Angeles Rams.
Goff himself struggled big time out of the game, which could potentially turn some teams off.
