Running back Rex Burkhead is headed to Massachusetts to play with the New England Patriots on a free agency deal.
The Patriots announced the roster move Tuesday.

Originally sixth-round pick out of Nebraska, Burkhead has spent the past four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. A special teams ace who developed into a very capable running back at the NFL level, he will likely add value to New England’s roster in both capacities.
In addition to two straight double-digit special teams tackle seasons, Burkhead rushed for 344 yards with two touchdowns last year, adding another 145 yards on 17 receptions.
He’s exactly the type of Swiss Army knife-type player that should thrive in New England playing for Bill Belichick.
