Martellus Bennett says goodbye to Patriots fans on Twitter

Martellus Bennett

It appears Martellus Bennett has seen the writing on the wall that he’s not going to be a member of the New England Patriots in 2017.

Of course, after the Patriots made a trade with the Indianapolis Colts to acquire tight end Dwayne Allen (details here), this was to be expected.

Also, Bennett is reportedly seeking upwards of $9 million per season on his new contract, and we all knew the Patriots wouldn’t be spending that kind of cash to keep him.

Still, it stands to reason one or two other teams might. Bennett is coming off a highly productive 2016 campaign in which he caught 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns. He caught 10 passes in the Patriots’ final two postseason games en route to a Super Bowl victory as well.

We’ll be watching with interest to see where he lands.
