EJ Manuel benched for Cardale Jones after poor showing

EJ Manuel

It’s safe to say that EJ Manuel’s Week 17 start has not gone according to plan. After an ineffective three quarters against the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills pulled Manuel in favor of Ohio State rookie Cardale Jones.

“It’s Cardale Jones time for the Bills. EJ Manuel has been benched and rookie fourth-rounder making his NFL debut as fourth quarter begins,” ESPN’s Mike Rodak wrote. “Manuel finishes 9 of 20 for 86 yards today, with 57.5 QB rating and lost fumble.”

This was Manuel’s first start of the season. Prior to Week 17, he had only attempted six passes while backing up Tyrod Taylor.

It’s been reported that Taylor is not in Buffalo’s long term plans, which you can read about here.

Based on his Week 17 performance, it’s unlikely that Manuel is, either.
